This from the Commonwealth Short Story Prize to me, Kristine Simelda:
We hope this email finds you, your friends and your family safe at this difficult time.We would like to thank you very much for submitting a story to this year’s Commonwealth Short Story Prize. The success of the prize is dependent on the submission of entries from writers such as yourselves, and please be assured that we read each and every entry, and appreciate the time and effort that goes into crafting each story.
We received 5,107 entries this year, so, as always, the readers and judges have to make difficult decisions and we regret to let you know that your story didn’t make the shortlist this year. However, we would like to inform you that your story was one of 200 longlisted entries read and discussed by our international judging panel. We hope you take confidence from this, and continue to write and submit your work.
Details of the 20 shortlisted stories will be on our website shortly. The regional winners will be announced in May, and the overall winner in a virtual ceremony on 7 July. We’ll be sharing more information about the ceremony via our newsletter and on our social media platforms nearer the time. We very much hope you will join us wherever you are in the world.
We’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all the best in your writing endeavours and look forward to receiving entries from you in the future.
On behalf of all the team at Commonwealth Writers,
Many thanks again and our very best wishes
