Kristine Simelda is the author of three adult novels, three novellas, a novel and a collection of short stories for young adults, and numerous other works of short fiction. Born in the U.S., she has lived on the Eastern Caribbean island of Dominica since 1994.
She has worn many caps during the course of her lifetime. These have included daughter, wife, mother, artist, florist, horse trainer, gallery owner, and restaurateur. Currently she lives on a smallholding on the edge of the rainforest where she continues to write and raise large dogs. Her main focus as a transplanted author living in the tropics has been to honestly and entertainingly record the unique experiences of cross-cultural living via the themes and characters portrayed in her work.
Kristine is the co-founder of Waitukubuli Writers, a group of poets and writers based in Dominica. As a member of Waitukubuli Writers, she works with schools, libraries, and aspiring writers to promote both crafting and awareness of Caribbean literature.
Kristine was a featured presenter at the Nature Island Literary Festival in 2015 and winner of the 2018 People’s Choice Award for Dominican Literary Artist of the Year for her novel, Nobody Owns the Rainbow.
